Helio gives you an AI teammate — see [what is an AI teammate?](/get-started/concepts/what-is-an-assistant) if you're new to the idea. When you sign up, Helio gets you to a real result before any setup: it gives you one AI teammate, asks what you'd like done first, and hands you something you can use.

## Desktop or web [#desktop-or-web]

Helio runs as a native desktop app and as a web app at **app.helio.im** — sign-in, channels, tasks, and AI teammates work the same either way. A few things need the desktop app specifically:

* **Local, on-machine execution** — running a teammate on your own device instead of Helio Computer
* **ChatGPT sign-in** — connecting a teammate with a ChatGPT subscription needs the desktop app specifically; other [bring-your-own-key options](/connect/use-your-own-keys) (Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepSeek API keys) work on both
* **In-app billing checkout** — managing your plan opens Stripe Checkout/Portal in an in-app window instead of your browser
* **Native window controls**

Nothing to set up either way — sign in at [app.helio.im](https://app.helio.im/sign-in) to use the web app, or download the desktop app from the same address when you need one of the items above.
