# Connect Discord (/connect/connect-tools-to-ai-teammates/connect-discord)

## What is Discord access? [#what-is-discord-access]

Discord doesn't work like the other providers here — connecting it isn't "sign in with your Discord account," it's inviting a bot into a specific server. The identity Helio tracks is the guild (server) itself, not your personal Discord login. With Discord connected, a teammate can:

* Read and post messages in the channels of the server it was invited into
* Act with the permissions granted to the bot at invite time

## How to Connect Discord [#how-to-connect-discord]

Open the teammate's Tools section and click **Connect** on Discord. Discord will prompt you to pick a server and approve the bot's permissions, then add the Helio bot to that server — this is a bot install, not a personal sign-in. The teammate's access is scoped to whichever server the bot was invited into, and the bot only sees the channels it has been given permission to see there. See [Connect tools](/connect/connect-tools-to-ai-teammates) for the full walkthrough of opening Tools and managing a connection afterward.
