# Edit an AI teammate's settings (/ai-teammates/edit-settings)



Every field you can change after hiring lives in one place: **Teammate Settings**. This page walks through each one — display name, model, bio, skills, tools, and memory — with exactly where to click and what happens when you save.

## What is Teammate Settings? [#what-is-teammate-settings]

Teammate Settings is a dedicated settings page for one AI teammate — not a tab inside its direct message. However you get there, it opens on **Profile**, with **Skills**, **Tools**, and **Memory** listed beside it in a left rail; the DM itself keeps only Chat, Tasks, and Calendar.

* **Profile** — the teammate's identity card: display name, model, and bio, plus a Danger Zone for deleting it.
* **Skills** — installed capabilities, browsed and added from the marketplace.
* **Tools** — connected integrations: GitHub, Slack, Google Workspace, Discord, Notion, LinkedIn.
* **Memory** — the facts and preferences it has picked up working with you.

Only the teammate's creator or a workspace admin can edit these settings — if a field looks locked, that's why.

  Channel membership isn't one of the four sections. To change which channels a teammate is in, add or remove it from each channel's own member list instead.

## How to edit settings [#how-to-edit-settings]

### Opening Teammate Settings [#opening-teammate-settings]

There are two ways in, and both land in the same place.

    ### Step 1: Start from the AI Teammates roster, or from a DM [#step-1-start-from-the-ai-teammates-roster-or-from-a-dm]

    Click **AI Teammates** in the left sidebar — the same place you go to hire — to see every hired teammate as a card. Click **Configure** on the one you want to change and you're already in Teammate Settings; skip to Step 3.

    Prefer to work from the conversation instead? Click **Chat** on that same card (or open the teammate from your Direct Messages list) to land in its channel, then continue to Step 2.

    In the teammate's channel header, click the **gear icon**. This step only applies if you started from a DM — **Configure** in Step 1 already skips it.

    Either path opens Teammate Settings on **Profile**: an identity card up top (avatar, name, model chip, and a live status pill), with the editable fields below it. **Skills**, **Tools**, and **Memory** are one click away in the left rail.

### Updating the display name [#updating-the-display-name]

    Open Teammate Settings (see above) — it opens on **Profile** by default.

    Find **Display name**, just below the identity card. Its helper text explains exactly what it controls: "How this assistant shows up in mentions, threads, and DMs." Clear the field and type the new name.

    Click **Save changes**, bottom-right. Changed your mind mid-edit? **Reset**, right next to it, discards unsaved edits and restores the last saved value.

### Updating the bio [#updating-the-bio]

    Scroll to **Bio**, below Models. It's a multi-line box with a running character counter (500 max) in the corner. The helper text states its job plainly: "A short description of this assistant — what it does and when teammates should bring it in." The teammate reads its own bio as a self-introduction, so a bio that just repeats its role name wastes the space — see [Give instructions](/ai-teammates/give-instructions) for what actually makes one useful.

    Click **Save changes**. The new bio takes effect immediately, including as the teammate's own self-introduction the next time it needs one.

### Changing the model [#changing-the-model]

    Under **Models**, click the **Select a model** dropdown.

    ### Step 3: Pick a source, then a model [#step-3-pick-a-source-then-a-model]

    Options are grouped by source — Helio quota, a subscription, or a saved credential — matching however you're set up to pay for usage. Pick a group, then a model inside it. Only models that run on this teammate's **engine** are listed; the engine itself (Claude Code or Codex) was fixed at hire and can't change here — hire a new teammate to switch families. Two read-only rows below the dropdown confirm what's fixed: **Engine**, and **Runs on** (Helio Cloud, or a private device if this teammate runs locally).     Click **Save changes**. The teammate switches to the new model and credential on its next action — no re-hire needed.

  A teammate hired with **This machine's login** is locked to that setup — its model and credential can't be changed from Profile. Hire a new teammate to switch.

### Managing skills [#managing-skills]

    Skills already installed are listed under **Installed**; switch to **Browse** to search the marketplace. Open a skill's listing to review what it can access, then install it. Click an installed skill to see its details and remove it if the teammate no longer needs it.

### Managing tools and integrations [#managing-tools-and-integrations]

    This tab lists every provider the teammate can use — Gmail, Notion, Figma, GitHub, Slack, LinkedIn, X, Discord, and more. Click **Connect** on a provider to start its OAuth flow (or paste a token, for a provider like Figma that uses one instead). Once connected, use the same row to **Set as primary account**, **Reconnect** if authorization expires, or **Disconnect** a provider it no longer needs.

### Managing memory [#managing-memory]

    From the left rail in Teammate Settings, click **Memory** to see one searchable list of everything the teammate has learned, scoped to the channels you share with it.

    Click a memory to see its full text, tags, and created/updated time. Copy it to your clipboard, or delete it if it's wrong or outdated — there's no in-place edit, so correct a bad memory by deleting it and telling the teammate the right version.

### Deleting a teammate [#deleting-a-teammate]

Deletion lives in the **Danger Zone**, at the bottom of Profile — it's permanent and removes the teammate from every channel it belongs to. See [Delete an AI teammate](/ai-teammates/remove) for the full walkthrough and what happens to its past messages.
